Biography of Micah Materre
Micah Materre is an Emmy-winning American journalist, currently the anchor of WGN Evening News on Five and Six and WGN News on Nine and Ten. Before Micah received her current role as the WGN News on Nine Anchors in 2009, she co-hosted the WGN Midday News from January 2003 to October 2009.
Materre had an early passion for journalism, a passion that grew even after he graduated from a local school in Chicago. She then joined Drake University and majored in journalism.
Micah first joined WGN-TV in January 1998 as the station’s morning news co-anchor and medical reporter. She anchored all WGN news and covered entertainment news and special assignment stories.
Notably, Micah covered the historic inauguration of America’s first black president. In addition, she reports on and co-produces the biweekly segment “Chicago’s Very Own” for WGN News and is the host of the WGN public relations program “People to People”.
A Chicago native, Micah spent eight years at WJBK-TV in Detroit, where he worked as a lead anchor and general reporter. Additionally, at WJBK, Micah’s work has received numerous awards and accolades, including an Emmy and an award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. In 2014, she received a Chicago/Midwest Emmy and was also honored as a Diversity Pioneer by Barnes and Thornburg LLP.
Before moving to Motor City, Materre trained in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a general reporter and weekend anchor. As of now, she has over 30 years of experience as a journalist and broadcaster.

Beginning her broadcasting career in 1983 at NPR’s Chicago-affiliated WBEZ radio, she produced and reported for four years. Furthermore, she taught radio production at Columbia College.
