Michael Putney is an American Award-winning journalist who is currently a senior political television reporter and columnist for WPLG Local 10 News, based in Miami, United States. Putney also works as a political columnist for The Miami Herald.
Michael was born in New York, but raised in St. Louis. At age 14, he moved with his family to Berkeley, California. Michael attended Berkeley High School, and upon graduating, he entered Deep Springs College in California. After two years in college, Putney earned a degree in English Literature from the University of Missouri. He later obtained his master’s degree from the University of Missouri.
Michael began his journalism career in 1966 as a radio reporter. He was eventually promoted to news director for KCGM in Columbia, Missouri. In 1970, Putney moved to Washington, D.C. to work for The National Observer as an art editor-at-large and eventually worked his way up to become a reporter-general and national editor.
Michael joined the WPLG Local 10 News located in Miami, Florida in 1981 as the host of “This Week In South Florida with Michael Putney”. In 1989, he began working for Local 10 as a senior political reporter.
In addition, Michael writes a biweekly policy column for The Miami Herald and has reported for the National Observer (United States), Time and WTVJ. The State Supreme Court also appointed Putney to the Florida Judicial Administration Council.
