
Biography of Mike Greenberg
Michael Robinette Greenberg is a television anchor, television show host, radio show host for ESPN and ABC, and novelist. Previously, Mike hosted SportsCenter, ESPN Radio SportsCenter, and Mike and Mike in the Morning with Mike Golic.
Robinette was born and raised in New York, United States. He attended and graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1985. After that, Greenberg attended Northwestern University where he graduated in 1989. Before joining ESPN in 1996, Mike worked as an anchor, reporter and host for a live show on CLTV . He has also worked for WSCR-Radio as a reporter and talk show host. In addition to his role there, he also wrote a weekly syndicated column for the California-based Copley News Service. In addition to working at the WSCR, Mike has also worked for the Sports Channel in Chicago. Early on, he served as a sports anchor and reporter at WMAQ-AM in Chicago.
For nearly two decades, sports fans have woken up to Greenberg as one half of ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike, with co-host Mike Golic. Greenberg joined ESPN in September 1996 as an anchor for the ESPNEWS launch. He later anchored SportsCenter for many years, even long after the release of Mike & Mike on January 3, 2000. Greenberg and Golic were inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2016 and the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2018. Greenberg was also inducted into Northwestern’s Medill Hall of Achievement.
From 2007 to 2008, Greenberg worked at ABC as the host of Duel and co-hosted Battle of the Network Stars with Joe Tessitore. He also appeared along with his radio partner Mike Golic, on the soap opera Guiding Light, as reported on ESPNradio.com. Additionally, Mike has hosted ESPN’s morning show Get Up since 2018 and also hosts NBA coverage on NBA Countdown.
In addition, Greenberg is also an author who published his first book, Why My Wife Thinks I’m an Idiot, spent five weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List, and was nominated for a Quill Prize. The book describes his account of his life as a sports fan and husband. In 2010, Greenberg, along with Golic, released Mike & Mike’s Rules for Sports and Life, which reached number 3 on The New York Times bestseller list. Additionally, he debuted his first novel, All You Could Ask For, as a tribute after a family friend, Heidi Armitage, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
