Mike Hoffman biography
Mike Hoffman is a veteran American meteorologist who currently serves as chief meteorologist for 16 News since returning to Michiana in 1994. Hoffman was based in South Bend, Indiana, United States of America.
Mike is a proud graduate of Delphi Community High School in 1977 as valedictorian. Hoffman then joined Purdue University to earn a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Science in 1981. He moved immediately after graduation to work at Accu-Weather, Inc. at State College, PA, for three years of valuable experience.
Hoffman began his television career in 1984 on the WSJV, the Fox affiliate in Michiana. He then moved on to work as a meteorologist for WTRH-TV in Indianapolis for three years. Mike’s next step landed him a six-year career as chief meteorologist for WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan.
He was also honored to work for two of his mentors and worked for two different mentors and “heroes” of his, Bob Gregory in Indianapolis, and Dick Addis here at WNDU.
In addition to working as a weekday weatherman at WNDU, Mike also records weather segments for AgDay and the US Farm Report, which air at over 160 stations across the country. Hoffman’s weather reports carry the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval.
Mike’s outdoor activities and hobbies include camping and hiking, as well as speaking with community organizations and school groups. Hoffman and his wife are active members of The United Methodist Church. She has been to Tapachula, Mexico 10 times to work with underprivileged children.
Since his return to Michiana in 1994, Mike has been covered as the chief meteorologist for 16 News Now. He spent much of the night of April 3, 1974, listening to a transistor radio broadcast of the massive tornado damage caused by the “Super Outbreak”.
