Biography of Nick Offerman
Nicholas David Offerman is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He gained fame for his role as Ron Swanson on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Additionally, David received the TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy.
Born in Joliet, Illinois, David attended Minooka Community High School. He later went on to the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993. Shortly after graduating, he and a group of classmates founded Chicago’s Defiant Theater company. There he worked with various theaters such as Goodman, Steppenwolf and Wisdom Bridge in Chicago as a master carpenter and fight choreographer in addition to acting. After making a few appearances in movies and television shows like ‘ER’, ‘Profiler’, ‘Going All the Way’ and ‘Treasure Island’, Offerman appeared on ‘Will & Grace’ where he met his future wife Megan Mullally.
Later, Nick was featured in a few small roles such as George Lopez and Gilmore Girls. During that time, he also appeared in films such as ‘Cursed’, ‘Wristcutters: A Love Story’ and ‘3 lbs’. Additionally, in 2007, Offerman co-starred in the Comedy Central series American Body Shop. Two years later, he was offered the role of ‘Ron Swanson’ by Michael Schur and Greg Daniels, the creators of the American political satire television series ‘Parks and Recreation’. Offerman’s performance was highly appreciated by the audience and he became a big reason for the success of the show. Prior to that, he was nominated for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2011. Furthermore, Nick can be seen portraying in films such as November (2004), Cursed (2005), Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005), Sin City (2005), The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) and The Kings of summer 2013). He also appeared in the 2006 film Wristcutters: A Love Story as a police officer who tries to arrest Shannyn Sossamon’s character Mikal. In 2013, he appeared in a comedy called We’re the Millers, which starred Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston, and voiced MetalBeard in The Lego Movie. Additionally, Offerman voiced Grandpa Mike alongside his wife Megan Mullally, who voiced Grandma Linda in Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015). He portrayed the first founder of McDonald’s, Dick McDonald, in The Founder (2016).
In 2023, Offerman appeared in the third episode of the HBO series The Last of Us as Bill. His performance, along with that of his co-star Murray Bartlett, was critically acclaimed, with some critics naming it a career-best performance, and Dais Johnston of Inverse labeled them “Emmy-worthy”. In addition to acting, Offerman is also an author. He has released four semi-autobiographical publications including Paddle Your Own Canoe, Gumption, Good Clean Fun, and The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside, released October 12, 2021.
