Biography of Paul Bissonnette
Paul Bissonnette is a former professional American ice hockey player who is currently an NHL studio analyst at TNT. He played in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes. On TNT, he co-hosts alongside former NHL defender Ryan Whitney on the Barstool Sports Spittin’ Chiclets hockey podcast.
Born in Welland, Ontario, he attended French language schools until grade 7. At age 16, he was selected 31st overall by the North Bay Centennials of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the 2001 OHL Priority Selection. Paul went on to play in 57 games as a rookie and scored three goals and three assists.
He was selected in the fourth round, 121st overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He began his professional career in 2005 with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers. Paul appeared in 14 games for the Nailers, while also playing 55 games with the Wikes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
On November 12, 2005, he received his first professional wrestling major when he fought Jordan Smith. The following season, he played 65 games with the Nailers. After his retirement, he joined Coyotes radio as a color commentator, replacing Nick Boyton. He officially confirmed his retirement from professional hockey on his Instagram account on September 7, 2017.
On May 14, 2018, he released a mockumentary series called BizNasty Does BC. The series chronicles 17 stars from the NHL’s past and present and showcases the beauty of the province of British Columbia. In 2021, Turner Sports announced that they would be joining the company. Paul would join as an NHL pre-game and halftime analyst at TNT, alongside Wayne Gretzky, Ason Carter and Rick Tocchet.
