Petri Hawkins-Byrd, alias Byrd, is a renowned reality TV personality. He is famous for his role as a bailiff in the Judy Judy court show. In the cast, he acts as a legal officer who is a manager or guardian with some degree of authority in carrying out his official duties.
Petri began working as a bailiff for the Brooklyn Circuit of the New York Judicial System. He was later transferred to the Manhattan Family Court division in 1986.
It was in this role that he met Judge Judy Sheindlin. During this time, Judge Judy was the supervising judge of the Manhattan Family Court. In 1989, she received a degree in criminal justice from John Jay College.
A year later, Hawkins and his entire family moved to the San Fransisco Bay Area, California, to work for the services of the United States Marshals.

After appearing on Judge Judy as a bailiff, Petri was obviously on set and Makita thought about making a surprise appearance on set. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to recognize her during the surprise, but he still acted like he did during the interaction.
Since then, they dated for awhile until May 4, 2019 when the two got married. Previously, he was married to Felicia. the couple had four children together. The couple later separated and his wife moved with their children to the West Coast.

In 1996, when Sheindlin received her own TV series, Byrd wrote a congratulatory letter, saying, “If you ever need a bailiff, my uniform will still do.” Judge Judy invited him to her house to offer him a role, which he accepted.

Your main role in the program is basically to present cases (call the parties, swear the litigants, give the case number), deliver materials between the judge and the litigants, dismiss the parties, and escort them out when the case is concluded.

Byrd will tell Sheindlin where she is wrong and is almost always able to provide answers in areas Sheindlin is unfamiliar with such as math, used car prices, current fashions, technology, computer related subjects, etc.
When not in the cast of his usual show, Byrd works as an event MC, guest speaker, charity supporter and community activist. He is the national president of the OK Program, which addresses social issues facing black boys and youth, and serves on the board of the Teen Center USA religious youth program.
