Randy Wimbley Biography
Randy Wimbley is an American journalist who works as a reporter and anchor for Fox 2 News, WJBK-TV in Southfield, Michigan. In July 2013, he became a member of the station’s staff.
Wimbley grew up in Southfield, Michigan, and was born in Detroit. He went to Farmington Hills Harrison High School. Randy, later went on to Bowling Green State University, where he graduated in Broadcast Journalism in 2007. Randy wanted to be a reporter since he was a child, as he saw himself in the field presenting stories that the public wanted to hear and needed to know. He worked as an intern at Fox 2 News while in college.
Wimbley worked with many great, committed and enthusiastic people who reinforced his desire to be a reporter one day. His career took him across the country, from mid-Michigan to Memphis. Randy has covered a wide range of stories, from exposing a corrupt politician to the worst flood of the century on the Mississippi River. He was heading back to Motown from Memphis. He came home and went straight to work. During Wimbley’s first month on the job, he covered the controversial 2013 Detroit Mayoral Primary Race. This inspired him to go out and locate additional stories that viewers were interested in hearing.

Randy also knew he was in the right position because he was working at a station whose motto is “Working for you.” He’s aware that some people believe Detroit is doomed, but he doesn’t. Randy feels the story of Detroit’s resurgence is still being written and he wants to be a part of it.
He is also honored to host the 7th Annual Salute to Diversity Conference, which honors those who make a difference in their communities and in the workplace. He is delighted that his wife and family can visit the town where he grew up.
Prior to joining Fox 2 News, he served on ABC 24 WPTY News in Memphis as a reporter from July 2010 to July 2013. In addition, he also worked at WNEM TV5 News as a reporter from May 2007 to June 2010.
