Ray Cortopassi is an American journalist who is currently a news anchor for WGN News in Chicago, Illinois. He confirmed that he will join WGN as an anchor for the nightly news from 5pm to 6pm on September 28, 2020.
Prior to that, he worked as an anchor and reporter for FOX59 in Indianapolis since joining the team in 2009. He anchors the station’s news from 7 am to 10 am alongside Angela Genote and First at Four with Beairshelle Edmé. His career in journalism lasts up to 25 years.
Prior to joining FOX59, Ray worked as an anchor and reporter for TV stations in Traverse City, Michigan, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He has a passion for storytelling and was honored with Emmy and Associated Press awards during his years in Indianapolis.
Also, he has his origins in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb south of Chicago, Ray loves deep-dish pizza, and having grown up the son of a piano teacher, he picked up the drums and loves alternative rock-n-roll. After graduating with a degree in journalism from Columbia College Chicago, Ray studied acting and is now managing director of Off-Main Street Players, a community theater he co-founded in Zionsville, Indiana. He also served as Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce from 2008 to 2011.
