Rick Karle Biography
Rick Karle is an American journalist who currently co-hosts the WVTM 13 Morning News program in Birmingham, AL. He joined the station’s staff in December 2019. Its newscasts air on weekdays starting at 4am. He is co-anchor with Eunice Elliott, meteorologist Stephanie Walker and Harmony Mendoza. Despite joining WVTM 13, Karle served as a TV Sports Anchor in Birmingham, Jacksonville and Hanover, NH. He spent over 35 years of his life in Birmingham.
Rick was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of New Hampshire. Being a cancer survivor, he served as a board member of the American Cancer Society. Additionally, Rick has done volunteer work with Big Oak Ranches, United Cerebral Palsy, and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition, Karle has served on the juries of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, International Motorsports Hall of Fame, and Blue-Gray Hall of Fame. Additionally, for several years, Rick has been a voter for the annual Heisman Trophy and has served as a guest speaker and master of ceremonies at various charity events.
Prior to her TV work, Karle appeared on various radio shows such as The Paul Finebaum Radio Network and Statewide I-Heart Stations. Furthermore, he has appeared on Fox News shows such as Greta Van Susteren and other national sports shows.
Prior to joining WVTM, Rik served as a veteran sportscaster on WBRC Fox 6 News in Central Alabama, where he served for over 30 years, starting in 1989. He resigned from his role at the channel after his position as sports director was eliminated. While there, he covered big stories such as the sixth Alabama National Championships, the Auburn National Championships, and the 2011 Central Alabama tornado outbreak.
