Rick Santelli biography
Rick Santelli is an American television personality who is the editor of the CNBC Business News Network and is known for helping create the Tea Party movement through a statement he made on February 19, 2009.
He joined CNBC on June 14, 1999, as an on-air editor, primarily reporting from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Santelli’s focus is primarily on interest rates, foreign exchange and the Federal Reserve. He is also a regular contributor to CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” Monday through Friday, 9 am to 11 am ET.
Rick attended Willowbrook High School and graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana with a Bachelor of Science degree. He is also a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade. Santelli began his career in 1979 as a trader and order filler on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in a variety of markets including gold, lumber, CDs, T-bills, foreign currencies and cattle.
A veteran trader and financial executive, Rick has provided live reports on the markets in print, local and national radio and television. Santelli joined CNBC from Institutional Financial Futures and Options at Sanwa Futures, LLC At the institution, he served as vice president handling institutional transactions and hedging accounts for a variety of futures products.
Prior to that, Rick served as Vice President of Institutional Futures and Options at Rand Financial Services Inc. He also served as managing director in the Derivative Products group of Geldermann Inc. In addition, he was Vice President responsible for Interest Rate and Options features at the Chicago Board of Trade for Drexel, Burnham and Lambert.
