Robert LuPone died of pancreatic disease on Saturday, August 27, aged 76. He was known for his authority in the off-Broadway drama group MCC (Manhattan Class Company). The Associated Press was quick to report his passing when the theater verified him.
According to an official statement from the MCC Theater, Robert Francis LuPone died after a three-year struggle with a malignant tumor in his pancreas. Patti LuPone, an acclaimed Broadway performer, her girlfriend Virginia, son Orlando and twin brother William support the late artist and creative chief.
Bennie Will of the MCC Theater made a statement after his death. He said, “Bounce was a power, a supporter, complicated in the best of ways, brimming with youthful energy, but significantly astute in looking at our souls.” He was our dearest friend. It’s hard to recognize that at no point are we going to talk to him in the future and say, ‘We should talk.’

LuPone studied performance center under the celebrated German-American drama artist Uta Hagen, after graduating from the world-renowned Juilliard School as a performer and artist. Throughout the 1990s and mid-2000s, Bob LuPone was included in Law and Order. In four episodes, he portrayed various eccentric works. On The Sopranos, he also played Dr. Bruce Cusamano. LuPone’s last TV run in a five-decade profession was on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit in 2019.
Meanwhile, as co-artistic director of the MCC Theatre, LuPone has presented plays, for example Frozen in 2004 and Reasons to Be Pretty in 2008, both of which received Tony Award selections for “Best Play”. LuPone was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for his support exposure on All My Children in 1985.
LuPone has over 47 acting credits in movies and network shows to his name. In the interim, he was involved in 17 Broadway adventures, six of which he created and the rest of which he was part of the cast. Likewise, Robert LuPone is the cousin of Emmy-winning author and creator Tom Fontana. He is the brother-in-law of Bob’s sister Patti LuPone, his better half, former cameraman Matt Johnston.
