Ronnie Lott is a former professional football player who was cornerback and safety in the National Football League for 14 seasons during the 1980s and 1990s. During his career, Ronnie won 4 Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers.
He played college football for the University of Southern California and was honored as a Consensus All-America. He was first selected in the 1981 NFL Draft and went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. The San Francisco 49ers selected Lott in the first round (8th overall) of the 1981 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound standout talent was immediately recognized, and he was named the 49ers’ starting left cornerback from the start of training camp.
In his first season in 1981, he had seven interceptions, helped the 49ers win Super Bowl XVI, and became only the second rookie in NFL history to return three touchdown interceptions. His strong performance earned him a tie for second place in the rookie of the year poll with New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor.

Ronnie had the tip of his left little finger removed after being crushed while facing running back Timmy Newsome during the 1985 season, and a bone transplant operation would not have required him to start the 1986 season. By 1986, he was out. of the last two games of the season due to injury, but still led the league with 10 interceptions, along with 77 tackles, three forced fumbles and two quarterback sacks.

Ronnie returned to the 49ers in 1995, but his illnesses from the previous four seasons continued to plague him, and he declared his retirement before the start of the season. In his first year of eligibility, Lott was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was also named to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary Team.
