Biography of Sal Paolantonio
Sal Paolantonio is an American journalist who currently works as a reporter for ESPN’s Philadelphia office since joining the network in 1995. Since joining, he has become a staple of NFL coverage. In 2004, Paolantonio added studio work to his duties, replacing Suzy Kolber as host of the NFL Matchup. In addition, his best work for ESPN was covering Terrell Owens’ saga with the Philadelphian Eagles. This was during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
Paolatonio graduated from State University of New York at Oneonta in the class of 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He also participated New York University, where he earned his master’s degree in journalism in 1978. Paolantonio served as a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy from 1979 to 1983. While there, he received a United Nations media award in 1983.
Prior to joining his current station, he was a political reporter and reporter for the Philadelphian Eagles for The Philadelphian Inquirer from 1993 to 1995. While still here, he served as a reporter for the nightly news for WPHL-TV. Paolantonio is also a certified author and in 1993 he published his first book. The book was a biography of Frank L Rizzo titled The Last Big Man in Big City America.
In 2007, he and fellow sportswriter Reuben Frank published The Paolantonio Report: The Most Overrated and Underrated Players, Teams, Coaches, and Moments in NFL History. This book was the best-selling NFL book in the country. That’s according to Amazon.com.
