Scott Farquhar Biography
Scott Farquhar is co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian. He is one of Australia’s billionaires and director of the Tech Council of Australia, co-founder of promise1% and investor. Previously, Scott was director of Innovation and Science Australia. In 2016, he was awarded Australian Businessman of the Year by the Australian Financial Review.
He was born and raised in Australia and attended James Ruse Agricultural High School. After that, he transferred to Castle Hill Primary School where he completed his education. He later continued his studies at the University of New South Wales where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. In 2002, Farquhar and his friend Mike Cannon-Brookes founded the software company Atlassian.
The two met while studying at university and in 2001 registered the company inspired by the Greek Titan. At the time they founded Atlassian, Scott and Mike didn’t know what kind of company it would be, but instead focused on creating a work environment where they could be who they authentically were and weren’t. Currently, the company has collaborated with more than 51,000 large and small organizations as its customers. In 2004, he and his partner were recognized for their achievements at the Australian Consensus IT Professional of the Year awards.

Previously, he is an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales.
