Seth Meyers is an American comedian, television host, actor, writer, producer, and podcaster born on December 28, 1973. As the current host of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” he keeps audiences laughing and informed with his sharp wit and comedic style.

Before taking over “Late Night” Seth was a standout on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). He joined the iconic sketch comedy show in 2001 and became one of its key players. From 2006 to 2014 he was the head writer and delivered the news with a hilarious twist on the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.

Seth Meyers was born in Evanston Illinois. He grew up in Okemos Michigan until he was ten and then his family moved to Bedford New Hampshire. His mother Hilary Claire taught French and his father Laurence Meyers Jr. worked in finance. Seth has a younger brother named Josh, an actor and comedian.

His grandfather on his father’s side immigrated from Kalvarija near Marijampolė, now in Lithuania. The rest of Seth’s ancestry includes Czech Austrian Croatian Swedish English and German. Through the show Finding Your Roots, Seth discovered that his family originally had the surname Trakianski. Still, it was changed to Meyers by his great-grandfather who honored his father Mejer Trakianski.

Seth attended Edgewood Elementary in Okemos and graduated from Manchester High School West in New Hampshire. He went on to graduate from Northwestern University in Evanston in 1996 where he studied film and television production and was part of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Seth Meyers joined Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 2001. By 2005 he was a writing supervisor and in January 2006 he became co-head writer along with Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. In 2004 he tried out to co-anchor Weekend Update with Tina Fey but lost to Amy Poehler. After Fey left Meyers became head writer for the 2006–2007 season and co-anchor of Weekend Update with Amy Poehler. When negotiations for his role came up again later he hesitated to sign a contract that would restrict him to only writing considering leaving SNL if not given a role in Weekend Update.

In 2009, Seth Meyers co-anchored SNL Weekend Update Thursday with Amy Poehler. After Poehler left he anchored Weekend Update alone from 2008 to 2013. In the 2013–2014 season, Cecily Strong joined him until he left mid-season.

During his time on SNL Meyers impersonated various personalities and created recurring characters like Zach Ricky and DJ Johnathan Feinstein. He received acclaim for writing sketches including Tina Fey’s portrayal of Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential election.

Seth Meyers got engaged to his girlfriend attorney Alexi Ashe in July 2013, after dating for five years. They had a Jewish wedding ceremony at Martha’s Vineyard on September 1, 2013. Their first child Ashe Olson Meyers was born on March 27, 2016, at Lenox Hill Hospital. Their second child Axel Strahl Meyers was born on April 8, 2018, in the lobby of their apartment building. Their daughter Adelaide Ruth Meyers was born on November 24, 2021, and Seth announced her birth on his show Late Night.

In an interview with Jake Tapper on December 4, 2018, Seth Meyers mentioned that although he isn’t Jewish his wife is and they are raising their children in the Jewish faith.
