Shon Gables biography
Shon Gables is a well-known American journalist who currently works as a nightly news anchor on WGCL/CBS 46 from 5 pm to 11 pm in Atlanta. She joined the station in March 2018. Previously, Shon worked for various stations like KTBS-TV, WFAA-TV, WCBS and KWCH-TV. In addition, she has also received several awards from the National Association of Black Journalists and a Lee Evans Outstanding Journalist Award.
She was born and raised in Oklahoma, United States. After high school, she enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in economics. In addition, Shon also earned an Executive Master of Business Administration from the College of Business at Louisiana Tech University. She began her professional career at KWCH-DT in Wichita and served as an anchor and reporter. Later, Gables moved on and joined KWTV-DT in Oklahoma City, where she was promoted to news anchor and educational reporter. While there, she covered US military issues affecting Tinker Air Force Base.
Furthermore, Shon served as a reservist in the United States Army for seven years. Prior to that, she also worked as the news director for KVSP in Oklahoma City. Before joining WCBS morning broadcast, she worked at WDIV in Detroit as a reporter and morning anchor covering local news. During her time there, she worked as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society’s Southwest. On the WCBS Network, Shon has covered extensive stories including the Twin Towers Memorial, the Summer Olympics bid, the New York City Subway’s historic Centennial Celebration, and the New York Transit Strike, among others.

Throughout his career, Gables has hosted several television specials such as Salute to NYC Schools: Truman High School and Tunnels to Towers Run. She also hosted Black Enterprise Magazine’s nationally syndicated program, “Black Enterprise Business Report.” While still working for the BET Network, Gables interviewed top journalists including President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and BET co-founder Shelia Johnson, among others.
Furthermore, she went on to work as a weekend morning anchor for WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. Two years later, she served as an anchor for KTBS-TV in Shreveport. In addition, Gables has also received multiple awards from the National Association of Black Journalists and a Lee Evans Outstanding Journalist Award. In 2003, she was honored with Media Awards by the Harlem Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding work.
Previously, she received a National Black Achiever, a Gracie award from American Women in Radio and Television. Currently, Shon serves on an advisory board for EthiDolls, a board for Eagle Academy, an all-boys public school in the Bronx, and an ethnic doll manufacturer. In addition, she also supports NFTE, the Entrepreneurship Education Network.
