Stacy Smith is a retired American anchor for KDKA-TV, operated by CBS, a local television station based in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He was also a contributor to OnQ, a news magazine show that aired on WQED-TV. Smith attended Marian College in Indiana and graduated in 1971, where he majored in theater and drama. It was the same year that his broadcasting career began on WLBC-AM/FM in Muncie, Indiana.
He later worked at WHAS-AM/FM/TV in Louisville, Kentucky and WIFE-AM in Indianapolis, Indiana. He anchored the WDAF-TV nightly news in Kansas City, Missouri, for six years before joining KDAK-TV, Pittsburgh, in July 1983 as a reporter and anchor. While on KDAK-TV, he covered political conventions in 1984, 1988, and 1996 in depth.
Smith has won many awards as a news anchor. Among them is a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award. He also won several other Emmy Awards for broadcasting news. Smith also helped on several Emmy-winning specials, including “After the Miracle” (a story about life after organ transplantation).
Among his main assignments while working as a reporter was his visit to the Vatican, where he spoke briefly with Pope John Paul II. He also starred in “KDKA-TV News” at 4pm and 6pm after handing over his midday anchor duties to Kristine Sorensen in 2019. Smith, however, retired on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 72 years.
