Stephanie Sy biography
Stephanie Sy is an American television anchor and reporter for PBS NewsHour. Most recently, she has served as an anchor and correspondent for Yahoo News, and for the past 15 years, she has worked as an anchor and correspondent for CNN International, Al Jazeera America, ABC News, CBSN, and PBS NewsHour Weekend.
Sy graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a dual major in international relations and environmental studies. She began her career as a WBTW anchor in Florence, South Carolina in August 1999, serving until 2001. Stephanie’s reporting from Iraq, while incorporated in 2003, during the Iraq War, led to her hiring by ABC News in same year.
From 2003, Sy reported from London for ABC NewsOne until 2006, when he was a correspondent in New York. In 2007, Sy became ABC’s Asia correspondent in Beijing. She was then transferred to New York in 2009, working until 2012 when she left the network. Her other roles at ABC included occasional anchoring on World News Now.

Later, in 2016, Sy started working as a freelance reporter for Yahoo News, mainly conducting interviews. As of November 2017, she has also been a freelance anchor for CNN and CNN International and has also replaced Maggie Lake at CNN Money. Stephanie continued as a freelancer for Yahoo News and also for CBSN, CBS News’ online streaming service.
As she worked as a freelance journalist, Sy contributed to the PBS NewsHour Weekend. In 2019, Sy was named anchor of PBS NewsHour West, based at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University in Phoenix, and also a correspondent for PBS NewsHour.
