Tamika Scott Biography
Tamika Scott is an American R&B singer and songwriter. Scott is popular for being a member of the multi-platinum R&B group Xscape, which rose to fame in the 1990s. In addition, she is also a record producer and actress with credits in the movie There’s a Stranger in My House. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Tamika began singing at the age of 4.
Scott occasionally performed at places such as local talent shows, churches and weddings. At age 9, she had just recorded her first song with her sister Latocha. She later attended Tri-Cities High School of Performing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia before transferring to Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, where she graduated in 1993.
While at school, Tamika along with her friend and sister La Tocha Scott started singing together and formed a band called Xscape. After the group’s grand debut performance at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992, the girls were introduced to record executive Ian Burke, who later became the group’s manager. Xscape soon caught the attention of Jermaine Dupri, who later signed the group to his So So Def Recordings.
In addition, the band managed to release their debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, which peaked at number seventeen on the US Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B Albums chart. It was their first commercial success in a year, which allowed them to release two successful singles, “Just Kickin’ It” and “Understanding”; both entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

From there followed the release of a few albums of singles such as “Love on My Mind”, “Tonight”, “Freedom” and “Off the Hook”. Most of the album’s production was produced by Jermaine Dupri and featured guest vocals from MC Lyte. However, after the disbandment of Xscape, Tamika took her career a step further and starred in the Donald Gray musical plays “Man Of My Dreams” and “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”. She played the sassy role of Milay in Tyler Perry’s Block Buster hit “Meet The Browns.” Tamika wrote and produced four songs for the soundtrack to Tyler Perry’s film “Daddy’s Little Girls,” which is in stores now.
She also has a song on the soundtrack titled “Greatest Gift” which is considered the love song of the century! Tamika has written hit songs for Xscape, Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, Anthony Hamilton, Yolanda Adams and Letoya. She also wrote a song for the soundtrack of Jim Carey’s “The Mask”, wrote and produced for the soundtrack of “Hard Ball” starring Keanu Reeves, and wrote and sang the title song of the soundtrack of “Why Did I Get Married” by Tyler Perry. She also appeared on the Daddy’s Little Girl soundtrack, singing the song Greatest Gift.

Prior to that, she also appeared on the second season of TV One’s R&B show Divas in 2013. After that, Xscape reunited in 2017 and announced that they would be releasing a biopic about the band. In the biopic, Scott plans to be played by his daughter. However, the band was followed by Bravo as they prepared for the Essence Festival. In 2019, Tamika released her first solo project since her reunion with Xscape. A single titled “Tonite” was released on his official SoundCloud and YouTube channel. After that, she released her new single “Almost Over”, which was announced on TV & BroadwayWorld that Scott had joined the second season of the television series Conframa, from executive producer Shaun Cairo Pitchfork.
