Tim Pulliam Biography
Tim Pulliam is a Emmy nominee, multiple award winner American journalist currently serving as anchor/reporter for ABC 11 WTVD News. You can catch him covering local and breaking news on ABC11’s television, digital and mobile platforms.
Pulliam celebrates 15 years of award-winning television journalism covering breaking news, race, culture, politics, crime and tropical storms in the southeastern United States. Also, he is no stranger to the Triangle.
Tim grew up in Person County, north of Raleigh-Durham. He is thrilled to be returning to his North Carolina roots after working in Washington DC as a news editor and media strategist for a non-profit organization.
Furthermore, Pulliam is a winner of three Salute to Excellence in Journalism awards, presented by the National Association of Black Journalists (2020′, 2016′ and 2011′). Also in 2017, he won the ‘Reporter of the Year’ by the Associated Press and the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas.
Tim’s journalistic career began in 2006 in Wilmington, North Carolina, and later in Columbia, SC, where he served as a reporter and anchor. While in Colombia, he was awarded a Local Media Champion Award Richland One Community Coalition for its investigative coverage of simulated drugs and their effects on youth. Furthermore, Tim was also president of the South Carolina Black Journalists Association.

Likewise, Pulliam’s reporting experiences took him to Florida, where he unraveled numerous crime stories and covered important court cases such as the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.
In 2015, Tim’s reporting on the Michael Dunn murder trial was featured in an award-winning HBO documentary called “3 1/2 Minutes: Ten Bullets”. The film explored the life and murder of helpless Jacksonville teenager Jordan Davis. Jordan was just 17 years old and the only child of Congresswoman Lucy McBath. Tim also appears in the movie which is also available on Netflix.
Additionally, in 2016, Pulliam covered the remarkable opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC. He interviewed the museum’s principal architect and Durham native Phil Freelon and Oprah Winfrey and Stevie Wonder.
Tim graduated from Winston-Salem State University. The University named Pulliam among the top 40 alumni under 40. master’s degree degree of Johns Hopkins University.
In his spare time, Tim enjoys exploring new restaurants, working out, and traveling across the country and abroad.
