Tom Lyden Biography
Tom Lyden is a well-known American journalist, currently working as an investigative reporter for FOX 9 News in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Lyden has served as an investigative reporter for over 26 years, covering and uncovering some of the biggest stories in the Twin Cities. Lyden began his newspaper career at the Daily Star Progress in LA and Habra, California.
In recent years, Tom has focused on extensive reporting as part of the FOX 9 Investigators. His reports have led to resignations from politicians, new laws, putting criminals behind bars, and the governor’s open hostility. Furthermore, he also discovered a religious cult operating in Minnesota whose leader, Barnard, sexually assaulted his underage followers. His report led to an international manhunt for Barnard, resulting in his capture, conviction, and imprisonment.
Additionally, his reporting on the mysterious death of conspiracy filmmaker David Crowley was featured in a full-length documentary. He is part of FOX 9’s “jump team” to cover news far from home. This led him to bring stories to Minnesota viewers from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, the Virginia Tech massacre, and the hunt for serial killer Andrew Cunanan in Miami. Fortunately, Tom has been honored with over 20 regional Emmy Awards as well as 5 Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards for his reporting coverage.
Lyden participated Lewis and Clark College in Portland and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs. He also holds a master’s degree in journalism from University of Missouri, Columbia. He is a very obsessive tennis fan and also a moderate player.
