Van Hunt is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist. Their debut album, Van Hunt, was released in 2004 and its successor, On the Jungle Floor, was released in 2006, both on Capitol Records.
After graduating from high school, Hunt moved to Arlington, Texas for a short time before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1996 to attend Morehouse College, where he studied English but soon dropped out to focus his career on song.
Living in Texas, he started producing some hip-hop demos for Atlanta rappers to pay the bills. Later, through his work on demos, he met up-and-coming album producers and musicians such as Dallas Austin, Jermaine Dupri, and TLC.
Hunt began his career initially writing and co-producing the song “Hopeless” for singer Dionne Farris. He also joined her band on guitar and keyboards. Working with Farris, he met Randy Jackson, who later became Hunt’s manager in 2002. He co-wrote several songs with Rahsaan Patterson on her album “Love in Stereo” (1999) and co-wrote the single “Mean Sleep ” in 1999 with Cree Summer. .
Hunt released his debut album “Van hunting” by Capitol Records on February 24, 2004. The album featured singles such as “Here in hell (with you),” “Dust” and “seconds of pleasure.” The album was followed by their second album titled “on the jungle floor” released on April 4, 2006. The album included one song, “Character”, “average sleep” and a cover for “No Sense of Crime” by The Stooges.

In 2006, Hunt appeared with Nikka Costa on Sam Moore’s song “If I didn’t have loot” and also in “half the fun“. For covering the song Sly & the Family Stone, “Family matter”Hunt along with John Legend won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2007.
On August 7, 2007, he released the 4-track digital EP “The Famous Computer”. In May 2009, he released “Used in an emergency”, a collection of demos, remixes and B-sides posted on his website between 1997 and 2005. He performed in the theme song for the movie Hurricane Season that same year, titled “Be on Our Way”.
On June 15, 2011 he released his first single in three years titled “June”, followed by the release on his own Godless Hotspot label of his third album, “What Were You Hope for?”. In 2015, he released another album titled “the fun increases, the fun sets.” In August 2017, her full-length album, “Popular” was finally released to all online distributors 10 years after it was shelved.
