Vijay Shekhar Sharma is an Indian technology entrepreneur and multi-millionaire tycoon. Sharma is the founder and CEO of Paytm, a fintech based in Noida. As of 2022, he has been appointed Ambassador to India by the ICANN supported Universal Acceptance Steering Group. As of September of that year, Vijay has a net worth of $1.1 billion.
Sharman hails from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. He holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Delhi College of Engineering. While still in college, he created a website called indiasite.net which he later sold for $1 million USD. In 2000, Shekhar started a company called One97 Communications which provided mobile content such as news, cricket scores, ringtones, jokes and exam results. Earlier, Vijay launched another company named Paytm, a digital payments and financial services company. In 2018, Warren Buffett invested around $300 million in the company.

More recently, Paytm went public raising $2.5 billion at a valuation of $19 billion, making it India’s largest initial public offering at the time. He was named India’s Best Business Leader Under 40 by The Economics Times in 2015 and CEO of the Year by SABER Awards.

Additionally, he has been named a ‘Patron of Clean Air’ by UN Environment, where he helps promote environmental awareness and action.
