If you are familiar with the Van Wilder films, you are less likely to think that this is a story inspired by the life of a man. Its monstrosity was simply an extent reserved for fiction, or so we thought. In fact, the Van Wilder story was inspired by the life of Bert Kreischer. He grew up to be an actor and stand-up comedian, but when he was in college he had a 6-page article about him in Rolling Stone magazine as the number one contestant in the country. Bert is also a television presenter.
So how did Bert become a public figure simply by spending his college years drinking and being naked in public? Read below to find out.
Who Is Bert Kreischer?
At present, he may be a responsible man who fits into the larger society’s definition of a mature man with a wife and two children, but Bert wasn’t always that type. He was a man-child for a time in his life, as described in a book he wrote about his life in 2014. Bert was born into a respectable family, with a father who was a real estate lawyer and a mother who specialized in early childhood development. His birth took place on November 3, 1965.
As a somewhat wealthy family, he was sent to a private school called Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida, where he spent most of his childhood. After high school, he was accepted into the college that would rule his life, Florida State University. He attended the school as an English on paper major but chose festivals as his actual major. He became a party animal and was a member of the fraternity group Alpha Tau Omega.

Rolling Stone recognized the man who had led the school to the summit of the college party and wrote a paper on Bert Kreischer, which focused on understanding the lives and minds of the country’s top students.
The story, which was published nationwide, aroused the interest of many, including film director Olivia Stone. A man who quickly recognized the business side of a great story bought the rights to Kreischer’s life story and worked to develop a film from it. Unfortunately, he failed in the realization. However, the name of the protagonist was changed by one of the rights and sold to various production companies. National Lampoon bought the script for Kreischer’s life story, although his name did not appear in the story anymore. His name was replaced by Van Wilder, and so he became the inspiration for the Van Wilder films.
