Oscar Tshiebwe is a Congolese college basketball player for the Kentucky Wildcats (SEC) of the Southeast Conference. He was previously with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Tshiebwe grew up in Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He used to play football, but due to his above-average height, he was pressured to switch to basketball. Tshiebwe prepared for the race by running over hills and a mountain near his home. He later joined a basketball camp run by Bismack Biyombo, a Congolese NBA star who helped him advance his career. Oscar started playing basketball in May 2014.
In November 2015, he moved to the United States, just before the start of his freshman year of high school, and enrolled in Mountain School of Mission in Grundy, Virginia. he transferred to Kennedy Catholic High school in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, for her freshman year. He participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Nike Hoop Summit, among other events.
Oscar was also rated a five-star recruit by Rivals and 247 Sports, as well as a four-star recruit by ESPN. He committed to playing college basketball in West Virginia on October 20, 2018.
Oscar is an alumnus of West Virginia College. His team earned MVP honors in the Cancun Challenge title game. On December 2, 2019, he was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Tshiebwe was picked to the All-Big 12 second team and All-Newcomer team at the end of the regular season.
