Biography of Mark Stitz
Mark Stitz is an American chief meteorologist who has worked for the KMTV 3 News Now Weather Alert Team since December 2017. Stitz is very excited to be back in the Midwest with its hot summers and snowy winters.
Mark grew up in Canton, Ohio, home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He attended college in Ohio where he earned his meteorology degree from Ohio State University.
After enduring cold, snowy winters in Ohio, Stitz moved south, accepting his first television job offer in San Angelo, Texas. He spent nearly four years predicting the high heat and severe storms caused by dry lines. This has always been a common feature in the southern lowlands, separating the dry desert air from the humid air of the Gulf of Mexico.
During his service in Texas, Mark received the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorologist Society. This is a scholarship awarded to broadcasting meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their meteorological presentations.
He then moved to Lexington, Kentucky, a region known for its thoroughbred and bourbon horse farms. He then spent over two years there predicting the type of weather he grew up with, namely spring storms and winter snow.
Mark then moved back south, working in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Even though at this time they had the 2017 hurricane season very active, the most impactful weather events were not notable storms.
He was also on the air for hours helping to track tornadoes in the February 2016 and February 2017 outbreaks. Baston Rogue and its surroundings also experienced historic flooding in August 2016 after raining over 20 inches of water.
