Betsy Kling is an American meteorologist who currently works as chief meteorologist and 5pm anchor at WKYC studios in The Land. He specialized in getting the northern Ohio forecast right, keeping it real. Throughout her career, she has won numerous awards. Kling won Emmy Awards as Chief Meteorologist and Anchor of 5 PM What’s New at WKYC.
Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, she attended and graduated from Copley High School. She later attended Bowling Green State University where she majored in journalism and meteorology. Kling then finished his remaining meteorology course at Mississippi State University.
After graduating, she worked at different stations in different states before returning home in 2003. In 2008, Kling became Cleveland’s first female chief meteorologist. Kling has also earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist accreditation from the American Meteorological Society. It also received the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval.
Talking about her accomplishments, in 2018 3News invited her to start a multi-year initiative to encourage and promote girls and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). They called it “Rising Curiosity: Girls in STEM”. This station quickly gained recognition for spotlighting women in STEM careers. In January 2020, she teamed up with Jay Crawford to debut What’s New.
