Biography of Alden German
Alden German is an American meteorologist who currently works as a meteorologist at WHAS11 since joining the station in October 2019. As a child, he was afraid of thunderstorms but loved snow because during the 2003 tornado outbreak, a tornado hit Kansas City, where his home was located. Luckily, his home was spared, but it solidified his fear of thunderstorms.
He gradually realized that these people on TV seemed to know what was going to happen in the near future and this influenced his passion for being a meteorologist. After that, he started watching the news to see what the weather would be like and this increased his interest in broadcasting as well.
He is a proud graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science. While at the university, he helped build a weather department for KUJH-TV, a student-run television station. He also had the opportunity to do and fill in forecasts for a hyperlocal cable TV station that served Lawrence and nearby smaller cities.
After graduation, he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he worked for ABC-affiliated television station KLKN for two and a half years. He worked as a reporter and meteorologist. His time here included some devastating weather, including the March 2019 flood and one of the snowiest winters on record, which he covered firsthand.
When he’s off the clock, he enjoys reading and running. He can also be found working on his fitness at the gym or exploring Kentucky.
