Biography of Ali Wong
Ali Wong is an American actress and stand-up comedian who is best known for her Netflix stand-up specials Baby Cobra, Hard Knock Wife, and Don Wong. After serving as a writer and producer for the film Always Be My Maybe, Wong went on to star in the film.
She was a cast member of ABC’s American Housewife and has appeared on Inside Amy Schumer, Black Box and Are You There, Chelsea? Wong also wrote the first three seasons of the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. Additionally, she voiced Robert in Tuca & Bertie and Ali in Big Mouth.
Born in Pacific Height, she attended and graduated from San Francisco University High School, where she was student class president. She later enrolled at UCLA, where she majored in Asian-American studies and discovered her love of acting as a member of the university’s LCC Theater Company.
Ali also spent a summer working at The Lair of the Global Bear, a family summer camp for UC Berkeley alumni, and during her junior year, she spent time in Hanoi. Most notably, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Asian American Studies in 2005. She then studied in Vietnam through a Fulbright program.
After graduating from college, she tried stand-up comedy for the first time. After a while, she moved to New York City to pursue comedy and began performing up to nine times a night. In 2011, she was named one of the “10 Comics to Watch” by Variety. She was also cast as a series regular on the NBC comedy series Are You There Chelsea? After that, Wong was on VH1’s Best Ever and MTV’s Hey Girl in 2013.
Wong starred with Randall Park in the 2019 Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe and also voiced Bertie in Tuca & Bertie. In October of the same year, she released a book entitled Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, and Advice for Living Your Best Life. Recently, in February 2022, she released her third stand-up special, Don Wong.
