Amandla Stenberg is an American actress who was named to Time’s list of most influential teens in 2015 and 2016. She has received numerous awards in her career, including a Teen Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award, and nominations for four Black Reel Awards.
She made her career debut with the movie Colombiana, but her big breakthrough came playing Rue in The Hunger Games. Her role as Rue won her the Teen Choice Award for Best Chemistry. Stenberg also has a recurring role as Macey Irving on Sleepy Hollow. She also voiced Bia in Rio 2 and starred as Halle Foster in Mr. Robinson.
Her roles as Maddy Whittier in Everything and as Starr Carter in The Hate U Give earned her acclaim and even earned her the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. She has also been recognized for her outspoken opinions, particularly regarding her activism for LGBT youth, which has received significant media coverage.
In 2019, she portrayed Elizabeth Eckford in Drunk History. Later, in May of the same year, she joined the cast of The Eddy, released on May 8, 2020. In the same month, she signed on to star in Fear, and in August 2020, she was cast as Alana Beck in Dear Evan. Hansen. In 2021, she was cast in the lead role of the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte. Recently, she was cast as Sophie in the 2022 film Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Stenberg was born to Tom Stenberg (father) and Karen Brailsford (mother). Her mother is an African-American spiritual counselor and author. His paternal grandmother was of Greenlandic Inuit ancestry, and little is known about his paternal grandfather. She has two older half-sisters on her father’s side, but not much is known about them either.
