Anne Waiguru biography
Anne Mumbi Waiguru is a Kenyan politician who currently serves as the second governor of Kirinyaga County. Waiguru was elected the second governor of Kirinyaga on the Jubilee party ticket. Previously, Ann served as the first Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Returns and Planning.
Ann was born on April 16, 1972, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, precisely Gichugu, Kirinyaga County. She attended Nairobi River Elementary School and later joined Precious blood Secondary, where she sat for the O-Levels exams.
Waiguru then joined the Moi forces academy, where she sat for her A-level exams. She passed well and later joined Egerton University to earn her undergraduate degree in agriculture and home economics.
After graduating from Egerton University, Ann worked at Transparency International as an intern and research assistant. Her next step took her to the gates of the Kenya Leadership Institute and she later joined the University of Nairobi for a Masters in Economics. In this phase, Mumbi specialized in public finance, financial management systems, civil service reform, capacity building and governance.

Starting her career, Anne started in the civil service where she provided technical assistance to the secretary of civil service in what was then called the cabinet. His dedication and hard work earned him yet another big role in government. This was now the Head of Governance and the National Treasury’s national stimulus program.
At the same time, Mumbi had a different role in the Public Procurement Oversight Authority and the Women Enterprise Fund. She was also director of the Integrated Financial Information and Management System (IFMIS). Thanks to its excellent management, the program has won several awards. In addition, then-President Mwai Kibaki awarded her a Grand Warrior of the Order award for her outstanding work in implementing the IFMIS.
Her thirst for politics became evident in 2016 when she registered as a member of the TNA in preparation for the 2017 election. She competed for the governorship of Kirinyaga under the TNA umbrella. Lucky for her she had the full support of her party leaders; Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.

Later, in 2017, Waiguru won the seat of governor of Kirinyaga County through a Jubilee ticket, becoming the first governor of the county and one of three female governors in Kenya.
While maintaining the Kirinyaga County office, Waiguru has created programs aimed at empowering youth and women in Kirinyaga County, allowing them to access government projects in the county.
In September, Anne Waiguru was asked by the director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to file a statement on the disappearance of 791 million shillings from the National Youth Service, which was under a department she commanded.
However, she was later cleared of these allegations by the Kenya Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). This was not the end of it. Just like any other female leader, it was never easy for Ann. From time to time, controversial claims are granted to her. Let it be corruption, social life, wealth, friends, name them. Thanks to her firm and steady posture, she always managed to overcome all these obstacles.
On June 9, 2020, a group of members of the Kirinyaga County Assembly (MCAs) filed a motion against her over the allegations of abuse of power. At the end of the day, they got impeachment. However, she moved to the Supreme Court to contest her impeachment.
