After just one year of college basketball, during which he was able to achieve the Men’s College Basketball Grand Slam awards, Anthony Davis entered the NBA in the hope of repeating his success on the big stage. The five-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA First Team member, and three-time NBA All-Defensive Team member has accomplished quite a bit by stacking his stats, although he still has the big win in front of him.
Anthony Davis Biography (Age)
The NBA star was born on the South Side of Chicago on March 11, 1993, as one of three children of Anthony Davis Sr. and Eranier Davis as Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. Davis learned to play basketball from an early age and played almost every other day with his father, uncle, and cousins.
He attended Perspectives Charter School, which played in the Chicago Public High School League. Davis didn’t draw attention to his game until his junior year when he played AAU basketball and also appeared in the Nike Global Challenge. After his headline-grabbing performances, colleges like Syracuse and many others offered him a scholarship. Davis, who was playing point guard at the time, was involved in Kentucky in the midst of the great turmoil that his father demanded of colleges. In his final year before college, he achieved an average of 32 points, 22 rebounds, and 7 blocks, and was selected among many others for the first team of the USA Today All-USA High School Basketball Team, the first team of the Parade All-American, and the first team of SLAM Magazine All-American.
When Anthony Davis attended college, he was celebrated as the next big thing before he even got to throw a ball. With 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and an average of 4.7 blocks per game, he led his team to a perfect 16-0 record, after which his team lost at the regular-season championship of the SEC conference.
Despite this humiliating failure, Davis still managed to lead his team to victory in the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament of the NCAA 2012. On an individual level, he was named SEC Player of the Year, USBWA National Rookie of the Year, NABC Defensive Player of the Year, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the Four Most Outstanding Players in the NCAA Finals, and Consensus National Player of the Year. In addition, he was honored with the Consensus First Team All-American All-American Honors when he declared for the 2012 Draft where he was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the first-ever overall selection.
