Bill Johnson Biography
Bill Johnson is an American Christian minister, evangelist, traveling speaker, author, and senior pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California, United States of America. He is a familiar face to many, as he has appeared in television segments aired on the Christian Broadcasting (CBN) and Trinity Broadcasting networks, on Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural, and in a number of faith-based documentaries.
Bill has seen his church grow from 2,000 members when he joined in 1996 to over 12,000 today. He has taken public conservative positions on same-sex marriage, abortion, open borders, and many other topics.
Bill Johnson’s Early Life
Johnson went to John Wimber’s Signs and Wonders conference in 1987 with a definite goal in mind: to investigate whether healing could be revived. He left frustrated because he believed that John Wimber was preaching the same things, but the outcome was significantly different. According to Johnson, this disappointment led to the realization that faith required risk, and that it was only after this realization that miracles of healing began to occur.
Additionally, in 1995, he attended several Toronto Blessing revival meetings in Toronto, Canada. At these sessions, Johnson claims to have received a fresh touch from God, leading him to dedicate his life’s work to seeking the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.
Johnson founded the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in 1998 with Bethel Senior Associate Leader Kris Vallotton to train students to become Pentecostals.
Johnson is a fifth-generation clergyman who has served as senior pastor of Bethel Church since 1996. He is known for leading a congregation and Christian development oriented toward seeking the blessings and manifestations of the Holy Spirit in everyday life, for the simple reason that God is awesome.
