British music star – Farrokh Bulsara, also known as Freddie Mercury, was the frontman of the rock band Queen. He gained much fame because of his extravagant appearance on stage and his wonderful voice. Besides being the lead singer of the group, Freddie Mercury is also a music producer and songwriter. His music group is known for their popular hits such as Killer Queen; We Are the Champions and Don’t Stop Me Now, to name a few.
Biography Of Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946; his birth took place in Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar. The star spent his early years in Zanzibar and India before moving to England with his family. He had a sister named Kashmira with whom he grew up.
As he developed an interest in music at an early age, Freddie began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. He received his basic education at St. Peter’s School in Panchgani near Mumbai. Together with his other schoolmates, he founded a youth band called The Hectics; he was twelve years old at the time. Soon after graduating, Freddie continued to attend Ealing Art College, where he received a diploma certificate in art and graphic design.

While at college, Mercury met his future bandmates Brian May, a guitarist, and Roger Taylor, a drummer. The trio joined a group called Ibex, where he became the lead singer in 1969. Later, in 1971, they formed a four-piece band called Queen. However, the members of the band include John Deacon, Freddie, Brian May, and Roger Taylor.
His Musical Career
The group Queen Band released their first studio album in 1973, which they called We Are the Champions. They also released two other albums, including their hit album called Killer Queen. The song was released in 1974 and debuted at number 2 in the British music charts and number 12 in the United States. The following year, Mercury and his group released their song, A Night at the Opera, which was in the top 10 hit singles in the US and UK.
Interestingly, Freddie wrote ten of his group’s 17 greatest hits, including “Bicycle race”, “Seven Seas of Rhye” and “Somebody to Love” to name but a few. Freddie Mercury was also known for his live performances and audience engagement. He took part in several music concerts. Some of his most memorable performances included The Works 1984, Mr. Bad Guy 1985, and Barcelona 1988.
How Did Freddie Mercury Die?
While Freddie Mercury was at the peak of his musical career, the amazing singer was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in April 1987. The diagnosis was made at the Harley Street Clinic and when the media began to spread the news of Freddie’s deteriorating health, he flatly denied it. As a result, he appeared at the 1990 Brit Awards and looked pale and exhausted. His last play (This are the Days of Our Lives) was performed with the Queen in June 1991, after which he moved to his apartment in Kensington, West London.
During his last days Freddie began to lose his eyesight, his health deteriorated, so that at some point he could not get out of bed. As his situation worsened, Freddie on the other hand stopped taking his medication to hasten his death. Later, on November 23, 1991, he issued a press release about his health, and a few hours later he passed away. Especially his former partner Mary Austin took care of him until his death. Freddie bequeathed most of his fortune to Mary, including his mansion in Logan Place.
After his death, it became known that the main cause of his death was bronchopneumonia, which he suffered from as a result of AIDS. Freddie’s funeral service was held at the West London Crematorium on 27 November 1990.

Was He Gay?
Freddie Mercury always hid his sexual orientation from everyone, including the media. This aroused so much suspicion among his fans, who thought he was gay. Back then, his extravagant appearances and performances made people believe that he was really gay. Even when he wasn’t performing, the singer often visited a gay club or bar at night, and he had a gay partner named Jim Hutton.
Although Freddie had a partner – Mary Austin – with whom he had a long-term relationship, his relationship with Mary ended abruptly when he revealed his sexuality to her. He had several affairs with other gay partners, including Kenny Everett
Since Freddie was a very private person, he never felt connected to any political faction or the LGBT community. In addition, homosexuality was so strongly discriminated against in the UK in the late 1960s that Freddie often distanced himself from his partner Hutton in public places and events. The conclusion is that Freddie Mercury was gay.
