He took the opportunity and began to learn how to use a TV camera, and within three months he was transferred as a photographer. He got his chance in March 1970, when he was sent to make a film about a possible drowning, and no reporters were available to interview the young people involved, who had survived. After setting up the camera, Bob stood in front of the camera to report the story while the camera worked on its own.

He also traveled extensively with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys team during the 1970s, shooting on the sides of the team’s games. Later, in 1972, he started his half-hour weekend special, and 4 Country Reporter debuted in 1972. In 1986, he left Channel 4, remained on the Texas Country Reporter show, and began producing and distributing through his own company, Philips Produções. The program aired in all 22 broadcast markets in Texas, including the viral station WFAA, which remained the 8 Country Reporter program.

In addition to his extensive broadcasting career, Bob has authored several books primarily on Texas travel and cuisine.
