Charlie Heaton is an English actor and musician famous for starring as Jonathan Byers in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things. He is also known for his roles in films such as As You Are (2016), Marrowbone, The New Mutants, No Future (2020) and The Souvenir Part II (2021).
Before acting, he played in several London bands. After a while he joined the noise rock band Comanechi as a drummer. While there, the band released an album in 2013 and toured for a year and a half. After leaving noise rock, he joined the London psychedelic band Half Loon.
Despite being a professional actor, Heaton has no formal training. He began his career working for commercial extras and agencies to supplement his income as a musician and bartender. He first appeared in the ITV crime series DCI Banks and Vera and later starred in Casualty.
In his first film role, he appeared in the 2016 thriller Shut In. The film was produced in early 2015. He was cast in Stranger Things in 2016. In 2017, he had a lead role in Marrowbone. Later, in May of the same year, he was cast as Samuel in The New Mutants. He recently starred opposite Catherine Keer in the 2021 film No Future.
