Chris O’Connell Biography
Chris O’Connell is an American journalist who currently serves as an anchor and general reporter for FOX29 Philadelphia since September 2010. He is a co-anchor of the Friday night news. Chris attended Strath Haven High School. He later graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He finished a semester abroad in London, working in the ABC News office. After his graduation, he started his career working at WRTI-FM.
After spending two decades reporting for TV news outlets across the country, Chris returned to Philadelphia from Minnesota, where he was an anchor and reporter for the KSTP in St. Paul. Prior to that, he was an anchor and sports reporter for a decade at Bay News 9 in Tampa, Florida, where he also hosted a half-hour nightly sports talk show.
Most notably, Chris honed his reporting skills at WTVR in Richmond, VA, where he was bureau chief and reporter for two years. In addition to an Emmy Award for Outstanding General Attribution Reporting, he has been honored by the Society of Professional Journalism and Associated Press for his reporting work throughout his career.
