Conor McGregor is an an Irish professional mixed martial artist, professional boxer and actor born on 14 July 1988. He used to be a champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in two different weight classes at the same time which was a first.

Conor McGregor’s Early Life and Education
Conor Anthony McGregor a well-known MMA fighter was born in Dublin Ireland. He grew up in Crumlin and went to Irish-language schools. During primary school he attended Gaelscoil Scoil Mológa in Harold’s Cross and for secondary school he went to Gaelcholáiste Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght. McGregor loved sports especially football and played for Lourdes Celtic Football Club when he was younger.

Early Setbacks to UFC Stardom
On March 9, 2008, Conor McGregor had his first official MMA fight as a lightweight. He beat Gary Morris in the second round with a TKO. After winning another fight against Mo Taylor McGregor moved to the featherweight division but lost to Artemij Sitenkov because of a kneebar move.
Despite this loss, McGregor won against Stephen Bailey and thought about quitting MMA. But his mom convinced him to keep going. He then beat Connor Dillon and fought Joseph Duffy where he lost again due to an arm-triangle choke.

Conor McGregor’s big fight with Aldo was first announced on January 30, 2015 during the UFC 183 Q&A event. He said they’d be facing off on July 11 2015 at UFC 189 for the UFC Featherweight Championship. Conor McGregor fought Nate Diaz who won The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 and was a former UFC Lightweight Championship contender on March 5, 2016, at UFC 196. They fought in the welterweight category. On June 14, 2017, it was announced that Conor McGregor would have his first professional boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. who had never been defeated before. This match was set to take place on August 26, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise Nevada. People in the US could watch it on Showtime PPV and in the UK it was available on Sky Sports Box Office. They fought in the super welterweight category which means they had to weigh no more than 154 pounds and they wore 8 oz. gloves. This match was anticipated to be one of the most financially successful fights in boxing history.

Whiskey Venture
In September 2018, Conor McGregor started selling Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey in Ireland and the US. He named it after the area in Dublin where he grew up.
In 2021, McGregor and his partners sold most of their shares in the company to Proximo Spirits for about $600 million.
In August 2022, McGregor’s friend Artem Lobov claimed that McGregor was thinking of making vodka at first, but Lobov suggested whiskey instead. Controversies
Driving Troubles
In November 2017, McGregor admitted to driving too fast in Rathcoole County Dublin and got a €400 fine. A year later in November 2018 he admitted to speeding in Kill County Kildare and was fined €1000 and banned from driving for six months.
Then on March 22, 2022, McGregor was arrested in Dublin for a bunch of driving offenses like dangerous driving driving without insurance or a license and not having his documents. The Irish police took his car but he got it back when he was released on bail. He’s supposed to go to court in April 2022 and if found guilty he could face a fine of up to €5000 six months in jail or both.
Later on June 23, 2022, McGregor went to court again for what happened in March. He’s out on bail again waiting for more charges related to dangerous driving. He hasn’t said if he’s guilty or not and the judge told him to come back on September 8 2022 for further instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On September 8, McGregor got hit with another charge for careless driving on top of the six charges he already had for the March incident. Originally the trial was supposed to start in January 2023 but McGregor’s defense said he couldn’t make it because he was sick. So the judge decided the trial would start on July 31, 2024.
Controversial Cage Invasion at Bellator 187
On November 10, 2017, Conor McGregor’s teammate Charlie Ward had his first fight at Bellator 187 in Dublin against John Redmond. Ward won by knocking out Redmond in the first round. McGregor got excited and jumped into the cage even though he wasn’t supposed to be there because he wasn’t an official cornerman.
When McGregor jumped in the referee Marc Goddard was still figuring out if the knockout happened before the bell rang and if Redmond was okay. McGregor got into a heated argument with Goddard and in the chaos he accidentally pushed Redmond down when he was trying to stand up.
After a few minutes, McGregor left the cage but continued celebrating by climbing on top of it. A commissioner stopped him and McGregor slapped the commissioner’s face out of frustration.
Later the commission in charge of the event said McGregor’s actions put the fighters’ safety at risk. They also mentioned McGregor’s assault on the referee and a Bellator staff member.
Notorious Bus Incident
On April 3, 2018, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Artem Lobov had a small fight at a hotel in Brooklyn New York. Lobov is a friend of McGregor who has had issues with Nurmagomedov in the past.
On April 5, 2018, McGregor and a group of around twenty people tried to confront Nurmagomedov at the Barclays Center during a UFC event. McGregor grabbed a metal dolly and threw it at a bus Nurmagomedov was on breaking a window and injuring fighters like Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg. Lobov was also pulled from his fight because of his involvement.
Dana White UFC president said there was a warrant out for McGregor’s arrest and the NYPD considered him a person of interest. McGregor turned himself in later that night. He was charged with assault and criminal mischief among other things and released on bail.
McGregor later pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and was ordered to do community service and attend anger management classes. Chiesa filed a lawsuit against McGregor for the injuries he suffered in the attack.
Miami Incident Resolved with Lawsuit Dropped
On March 11, 2019, McGregor got in trouble outside the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach Florida. He got into a fight with a fan who was trying to take a photo with him using a cellphone. Security footage caught McGregor hitting the man grabbing his phone and smashing it on the ground. The police arrested him and charged him with strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief. McGregor spent a few hours in jail before posting a $5000 bond and getting released.
Later on March 14, 2019, news came out that McGregor was being sued by the fan in a civil lawsuit. But by April 8 the fan dropped the lawsuit against McGregor. Then on May 13, the criminal charges against McGregor were also dropped. The fan’s lawyer said McGregor had settled things with his client out of court so they didn’t need to pursue the charges anymore.
