Dan Shulman Biography
Dan Shulman is a Canadian sportscaster who currently works for ESPN Network. He serves as a play-by-play announcer for select broadcasts of the Toronto Blue Jays on Sportsnet. Additionally, he hosts a baseball-themed podcast, Swing and a Belt with Dan Shulman. Shulman also serves as the main presenter for ESPN’s coverage of men’s college basketball. Previously, he served as a walkthrough announcer for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
Shulman attended and graduated from the University of Western Ontario. There he majored in sports broadcasting. While still at university, he began his broadcasting career. Where he was the main voice of college football and basketball for the Western Mustangs on CHRW radio.
During the early 1990s, he was signed by Fan 1430 and would go on to host Prime Time Sports. Furthermore, he worked for CTV. In 1995, he became the voice of TSN. That was for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball game broadcasts. He stayed on the network for seven years. During this period, he also worked as the network’s secondary voice for NHL hockey. He was also the main announcer for NBA basketball.

Furthermore, he covered CHL games and supported host Dave Hodge on TSN Inside Sports. He started working part-time for ESPN while still working at TSN. In 2001, he moved to ESPN full-time. This was to cover sporting events like baseball and college basketball.
ESPN signed him to a five-year contract extension in 2007. He was assigned to call NBA games to the network. Dan remains the network’s top announcer for NCAA basketball. On July 27, 2007, he scored Barry Bonds’ 754th home run for ESPN. He served as the main play-by-play announcer for ESPN Radio’s coverage of MLB, in partnership with Dave Campbell.
On December 1, 2010, ESPN announced that Shulman, Hershiser and Bobby Valentine would be on the network’s new Sunday Night Baseball team. That was for the 2011 MLB season. He was named the 2011 National Sportscaster of the Year. This was by the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters.
On July 3, 2017, he announced in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he would be leaving Sunday Night Baseball. With that, he said he was looking to adjust his role at ESPN so he could spend more time with his family.
