Diana Ross birth name is Diana Ernestine Earle Ross. She is an American singer, songwriter, actress and record producer. Ross rose to fame as the leader of the Supremes, a vocal group she started with her friends as a teenager. This girl group became Motown’s most successful venture and also the best performing girl group in US history.
While attending Cass Technical High School in downtown Detroit, Diana began taking classes in clothing design, headgear, modeling, and tailoring. That was out of her aspiration to become a fashion designer. Ross also attended modeling and cosmetology classes at the school. She graduated from Cass Tech in January 1962.
Diana began singing at age fifteen in a group with friends Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin as The Primettes. However, they changed the group’s name to Supremes in order for the group to sign Gordy, a record producer at the time.
After making historic hits like “Come See About Me” and “You Can’t Difficult Love,” Diana left the group The Supremes for a solo career in 1969. Around this time, she hit number one with hits like “Ain’t No High Enough Mountain” and “Love Hangover”. Primettes is the vocal group Diana had her music debut with. She started the group with friends Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin as a teenager. After some time, Martin left the group.
