Eliud Kipchoge Biography
Eliud Kipchoge is a Kenyan marathon runner who holds the world record for the first human to run less than two hours in a marathon. He is the marathon world record holder, having set a time of 2:01:39 on September 16, 2018. This was a run at the 2018 Berlin Marathon where he broke the previous world record by 1 minute, 18 seconds.
Kipchoge was born on the 5th of November 1984 in Nandi County, Kenya. He was raised by a single mother as the last child in a family of four. Kipchoge’s career began in the year 2003. It was when he participated in the junior race at the IAAF cross country world championships, setting a junior world record in the 5000m sprint.

Over the course of several years, he participated in World Championships where he won several medals including silver medals from 2007 to 2010. Kipchoge switched to street running in the year 2012 where he did the second fastest half marathon. From there, he won the 2013 Hamburg Marathon in record time.
His breakthrough as a marathoner was accomplished at the Chicago Marathon in 2014 where he made his breakthrough as a marathoner. From that experience and debut, Eliud went on to participate in a series of races between 2016 and 2019. Kipchoge made a record by winning the London Marathon four times and also won the Olympic Marathon in 2016.
Kipchoge’s recent achievement is where he ran under two hours in the 2019 Ineos challenge, where he was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the first man to run under two hours.
But this event was not recognized as a marathon as it was not an open competition and the standard competition rules were not taken into account.
