Elle Reeve is an American journalist who currently works as a correspondent for CNN. She is best known for her award-winning coverage of the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia for her former employer, HBO’s Vice News Tonight.
Reeve graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She was awarded the Peabody Award in 2017. In 2018, she was included in Fast News’ “Most Creative People in Business” list.
Elle worked as a political editor at The Wire in the 2000s and later that decade joined The New Republic, before being dropped by her then editor Franklin Foer for her involvement in the Scott Thomas Beauchamp controversy.
She became nationally famous after covering the August 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia for Vice News Tonight. During this time, she interviewed neo-Nazi Christopher Cantwell and other white supremacist protesters, capturing them as they carried torches as they chanted “Jews Will Not Replace Us!” Her report, ‘Charlottesville: Race and Terror’, won her and Vice News Tonight a Peabody Award, four Emmy Awards and a George Polk Award.
