Evan Mobley is an American basketball player who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. He started playing basketball at a very young age under the guidance of his father who was a former basketball player. His interest in sports showed when he was in the eighth grade, when he was 1.80m tall.
Furthermore, he played high school basketball as a freshman at Rancho Christian School in Temecula, California. As a junior, he averaged 19.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game. Therefore, he was named California Gatorade Player of the Year and Press-Enterprise’s Player of the Year. In his senior year, he averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 4.6 assists per game.
Additionally, he joined Jrue Holiday as California Gatorade Player of the Year as the only two-time winner of the award. He was later named Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year. Furthermore, he was selected to play in McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit. However, all these games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, he was selected third in the 2021 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then made his summer league debut in an 84–76 loss to the Houston Rockets after signing with the Cavaliers. In this game, he had 12 points, 5 rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes. In October, he had 17 points, 9 rebounds and six assists in his NBA debut. This game was a 132-121 loss to Memphis Grizzlies.
Additionally, Evan led Cleveland from a win percentage of 306 to a win percentage of 537 alongside Jarret Allen. Furthermore, he finished as runner-up Scottie Barnes in voting for the NBA Rookie of the Year.
