Josh Giddey is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA), having been selected by the Thunder with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. Giddey became the first player since the Hall of Fame Oscar Robertson in 1961 to record three consecutive triple-doubles as a rookie.
Raised in Yarraville, Josh attended St Kevin’s College in Melbourne in grades 7-10 before emerging as one of Australia’s top basketball prospects with the NBA Global Academy. He later attended UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra. At the Australian Under-18 Championship in April 2019, he averaged 20 points and 8.3 rebounds and six assists per game.
On April 27, 2021, he entered the 2021 NBA Draft, where he was designed to be a lottery pick. Later, in July of the same year, he was selected as the sixth overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury the same day, five minutes into his NBA Summer League debut.
In December 2021, he became the second player in NBA history, after Norm Van Lier, to record a goalless double-double. Additionally, he became the youngest player to record a triple-double on January 2, 2022.
