Basketball star Evan Turner turned pro in 2010 after a successful college career at Ohio State University, during which he was named Big Ten Player of the Year and National College Player of the Year. The talented player was placed second overall in the 2010 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and after nearly four years on the team, he had a short stint with the Indiana Pacers. The NBA star also had a two-year stint with the Boston Celtics before joining the Portland Trail Blazers in July 2016.

Evan Marcel Turner was born on October 27, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois. During his first year of life, however, he was afflicted by several diseases, including chickenpox, pneumonia, asthma, and he was also a victim of the 1989 measles epidemic in Chicago. At the age of 3, he survived a car accident that resulted in a concussion and required stitches. He also underwent speech therapy to correct a speech disorder caused by oversized milk teeth and overbite.

Turner mastered the challenges of his early childhood to become an outstanding athlete. The young man had an incredible run as a basketball player during his time at St. Joseph High School in Westchester Illinois, which earned him the attention of college recruiters in his second season. He received offers from several prestigious basketball programs but signed up shortly after his junior year at Ohio State University.

College Career

Turner’s second season can be considered the breakout season of his three-year away game with the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team, in which he led the team in the statistical average of points, rebounds, assists, and steals. He also led the Big Ten Conference in scoring for the 2008-09 season, an achievement that earned him an all-big-ten pick for the first team in 2009.

He was also the Big Ten top scorer in his historic junior season, helped the Buckeyes win the 2010 Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament, and received the MVP honors of the tournament. He was named the 2010 Big Ten Basketball Player of the Year and the Big Ten Conference Male Athlete of the Year. He also won the College Player of the Year award and almost all of the season’s major awards.

NBA Career

In April 2010, Turner declared for the 2010 NBA Draft and, as expected, was promoted from the Philadelphia 76ers to 2nd place. The talented player continuously improved his productivity during his nearly 4-year career on the team. In the 2013-14 season, his last season on the team, he scored a career-high of 17.4 points per game in a total of 54 appearances. In February 2014 he transferred to Indiana Pacers and spent the rest of the season there.

The NBA star joined the Bolton Celtics in September 2014 as an unrestricted agent. In the 2014-15 season, his peat average dropped to 9.5 points per game, although he recorded 5.1 rebounds per game and 5.5 assists at career peak levels. In the 2015-16 season, he recorded a marginal improvement despite a decline in playing time. At the end of the season, he was finally transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers on July 6, 2016. Turner lost his initial small striker role in his first season with the Blazers, but he remains a critical member on the bench of the team.

The mother of Evan Turner is Iris James and his father James Turner. He grew up with 2 siblings, the older brothers Darius and Richard. Apparently, his parents are no longer together, but he maintains a close relationship with his father. From the age of 10, Turner was allowed to spend each of his summer vacations with his father, who is based in Columbus, Ohio.
