Biography of Ian McShane
Ian McShane is an English actor, producer and director, famous for his roles in films such as Lovejoy, Deadwood and American Gods (2017-2021). He won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for the original Deadwood series. Additionally, he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Raised in Davyhulme, Lancashire, he attended Stretford Grammer School. He then studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art alongside Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt. Ian went on to play Satan in the York Mystery Plays in 1963.
Ian’s film roles include Captain Hook in Shrek the Third (2007), Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda (2008), Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) and Winston Scott in the John Wick film series ( 2014–present). Furthermore, he was cast as Ray in Season 6 of Game of Thrones.
On top of all that, he narrated the opening taunts of each round of ESPN’s coverage of The Open Championship. In 2012, Ian had a two-episode guest role as Murder Santa in the second season of American Horror Story.
Additionally, he announced on April 20, 2017 that a script for a two-hour Deadwood film had been submitted by David Milch and that the film was closer than ever to happening Deadwood: The Movie was released in May 2019 With that, the Deadwood series concluded.
