Jamal Harrison Bryant Biography
Jamal Harrison Bryant is a renowned American minister and author who is the senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Bryant moved from Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in South DeKalb County in December 2018.
He is a proud graduate of Morehouse College, where he earned an undergraduate degree in political science and international studies. He also holds a Masters in Divinity from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Additionally, Harrison holds a Doctorate of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation. In 1998, Jamal spent a year in West Africa on what he calls the “Damascus Road Experience”.
As a child, Jamal attended his father’s church, Bethel AME Church. He preached his first sermon at age 18 at Bethel, entitled “No Pain, No Gain.” He is currently a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
In February 2008, officials from the AME denomination intended to initiate discussions about Bryant’s leadership. Following mutual divorce requests from Bryant, his wife, Hampton alumnus and future Real Housewives of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant.
However, the members agreed that Bryant would not face a disciplinary trial as there was no complaint against him. They further said that Bryant “has never been accused by the church system of anything.”
