Jessica Andrade Biography
Jessica Fernanda da Costa Andrade is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who is currently completing her career in the women’s flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In 2023, she fought Yan Xiaonan but lost at UFC 288: Sterling vs. Cejudo. Fernanda was born and raised in Umuarama, Paraná, Brazil.
She first took judo training and then enrolled in jiu-jitsu in 2011. There, she competed in her first amateur Jiu-Jitsu where she panicked and performed an illegal move on her opponent which led to her being disqualified. After that, she improved her training at the Gracie Humaita training center in Umuarama, where she fought with Duda Yankovich. Later, Andrade moved to the Paraná Vale Tudo training center, where he won eight of his first ten fights in Brazil. In 2013, she joined the UFC team and had her first fight against Liz Carmouche and lost to her in the second round.
In the same year, she also rose to prominence when she won her fight against Rosi Sexton at UFC Fight Night 30. Prior to that, Andrade also won her fight against Raquel Pennington after Raquel replaced TUF winner Julianna Peña at UFC 171. The following year, she was due to face Valérie Létourneau, however the match was canceled after Valérie declared that she was injured. Thus, she faced newcomer Larissa Pacheco and came out as the winner of the fight. Furthermore, Jessica also faced Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 61 and was defeated in the first round.

A few months later, she became a member of the strawweight division and there she faced Jessica Penne in her new weight category and where she won in the second round. In addition, she also fought with several female fighters like Joanne Calderwood, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Cláudia Gadelha, Tecia Torres and Rose Namajunas. In 2020, Jessica faced Rose Namajunas at UFC 251, but was defeated at the end of the fight. Following her two straight strawweight losses, she would face Katlyn Chookagian in a flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie.

Five months later, she fought Cynthia Calvillo and became the winner after knockout in the first round. Most recently, Jessica fought Amanda Lemos at strawweight and won the fight, which earned her a Bonus of the Night award. This year, she faced Lauren Murphy at UFC 283 and won via unanimous decision. In February 2023, she fought Erin Blanchfield and was defeated at the end of the second round.
