Jodi Hernandez is an American journalist who is currently working as a general reporter for the NBC Bay Area at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm since joining the station in December 2002. Most notably, she began her journalist career at KCPM in Chico, California.
She later moved east to Wichita, Kansas to work at KAKE-TV, an ABC affiliate. Two years later, Jodi returned to Sacramento, California to work at KOVR, a CBS affiliate. In 2002, she received a great reception from the NBC Bay Area.
Throughout her career, she has won many awards and nominations. She won the RTNDA Award for Best News Special Program for “The Condit Interview” and was honored by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalism Association for a story called “Dana’s Metamorphosis”. Additionally, she covered the Laci Peterson case where she interviewed Scott Peterson; the story of Chandra Levy-Gray Condit, where she got an exclusive interview with Congressman Gary Condit.
Regarding her formal credentials, she holds a BA in Mass Communication from the University of California. Hernandez is also an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the California Chicano News Media Association. Every year, she mentors students at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Convention to produce a 30-minute student magazine.
